Bill Newman: Thames Chase Artist of the Month
Bill Newman is a portrait artist who lives in Ockendon Essex. As a young lad he was greatly inspired from watching his older sister sketch. He then became an artist in his own right after leaving his career of 25 years as a draughtsman. He is self taught and is progressing with his artistry constantly and now is a celebrated artist throughout the county. The world of technical drawing clearly shows through his artwork when detailed perspectives are required.
His favourite medium for working with is pastel because he finds the blending capabilities of the pastels complement the objects he works with and enhances his work on portraiture.
Many subjects are in his portfolio. Bill's contemporary artwork covers a wide and varied selection of images including ballet, sport, pets, family, comedy sketches, architecture, cars, Hollywood icons etc. Because of Bill's outstanding abilities, the galleries he works with have requested commissions on many of these subjects for their customers.
However, portraiture is a clear favourite with Bill, having completed numerous commissions to produce pastel portraits of family, children and pets. Most of his images have also been produced in print form and as greeting cards which are distributed nationwide in card and gift outlets.
Various galleries in Essex hold examples of Bill's work such as Optimum in Hornchurch, Totteridge in Earls Colne and Wild about Art in Leigh on Sea.
The tennis gallery in Wimbledon is currently displaying Bill's work which co-incidentally is his favourite sport as he has been a keen tennis player in the county for 40 years, earning many trophies.
