Huge turn-out for all-abilities walk

Over 40 people took part in our specially-designed all-abilities walk on 3 May

On Friday 3 May, Thames Chase hosted an all-abilities guided walk, in partnership with Land of the Fanns. The event gave people a chance to take in the wonderful surroundings of our completely accessible Broadfields site.

The groups were led by our knowledgeable volunteers through the woodland and meadows across the site, taking in the greenery of newly-flowered trees and the birdsong from the hundreds of species that call Thames Chase home.

Groups also had the chance to see, and use, our newly-opened adapted bathroom facilities and quiet room - opened earlier this year by Rt Hon Michael Gove, Secretary of State for the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs - which are designed to enable as many people as possible to enjoy the outdoors in a comfortable setting.

The tours also learned about the adapted bicycles that are available to hire. On Thursdays during term time, and during weekends and school holidays in the summer, hundreds of people take the chance to feel the wind in their face as they glide through the forest.

All-abilities cycling at Thames Chase

In addition to Thursday afternoon hire, on Tuesday 23 July, Thames Chase is hosting a special all-abilities cycle at the Forest Centre. This event is free to attend and will have qualified cycling instructors and volunteers on hand for assistance and further enquiries.

There is also a women-only cycle day later that week (Thursday 25 July), and both events form part of the National Park City Festival, an event that aims to improve health, wellbeing and community engagement with the countryside around them.

To find out more about these events, and our other upcoming occasions at the Forest Centre, check out the events calendar and stay in touch via social media.
