What is Nordic Walking? Nordic Walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking - it makes something we can all do... twice as effective! It is a specific exercise technique and is not to be confused with trekking, hillwalking or rambling.

In order to gain maximum benefit from Nordic Walking it is essential to learn the correct technique from a qualified instructor who is accredited by Nordic Walking UK.

Meditation

Why would you want to learn how to meditate, or relax well? 

Why would you think that it is difficult to learn, these questions can be answered by trying for yourself!

Each week we meet as a group of people embarking on a journey for each person, why not join us?

You will be guided on a passage of mental exercises by an experienced teacher.  No stress, no fuss just easy relaxation techniques and exercises that everyone can master. No prior experience needed.

“The benefits of meditation on overall mental and physical health have been demonstrated in a wide range of scientific studies. Despite this, you might still be a little sceptical about meditation. When the word is mentioned a whole cascade of stereotypes can spring to mind: Buddhist monks, yoga classes, lentils, brown rice . . . So, before we proceed, we’d like to dispel some myths:"

  • Peace of mind and tranquillity of thoughts, is a right, that everyone can achieve without too much cost, effort or training.
  • Meditation is not a religion. It is simply a form of mental training that has been proven in countless scientific trials to help people cope with pain, illness, anxiety, stress, depression, irritability and exhaustion.
  • Meditation will not trick you into passivity or resign you to your fate. On the contrary, mindfulness boosts mental and physical resilience.
  • Meditation will not seduce you into adopting a fake ‘positive’ attitude to life. It simply creates a form of mental clarity that helps you to enjoy life and achieve your goals.
  • Meditation does not take a lot of time in fact it can take around twenty minutes per day, many people find that it liberates more time than it consumes because they spend far less time having to cope with chronic pain, illness and stress.
  • Meditation is not difficult or complicated, although it does require some effort and persistence. You can meditate on more or less anything. You can also do it virtually anywhere – on buses, trains, and aircraft or even in the busiest office.

Our group meets at 10.30 - 12:00 each Monday morning at Thames Chase Educational room, Come along and see for yourself!

Pilates Classes

Upminster Sports Massage & Pilates

Our classes offer something unique.  Have you ever done Pilates in a large group and wondered whether you’re doing it correctly?  Our classes are a rare opportunity to work within a small group to ensure close supervision and LOTS of individual attention and ‘hands on’ corrections in order to refine technique and alignment and obtain maximum benefit from each exercise and reach full physical potential.

What is Pilates?

Devised by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s, Pilates is a series of slow and controlled body conditioning exercises which relieve stress, build core stability & strength, improve muscle elasticity and mobilise spinal joints.  This can reduce the incidence of back and neck pain, which is why Pilates is often recommended by medical professionals.

Our Classes & Courses

We offer Classes in Upminster, Cranham & Bulphan from Monday to Friday Mornings & Evenings. We also offer short Beginner Courses, Gentle Pilates for Seniors, Post Natal Pilates, and 1:1 private sessions. We welcome those seeking safe exercise due to recovering from injury or due to certain medical conditions and also those wishing to increase their general fitness. Our Teachers

Both Neil and Charlene have a high level qualification in Pilates Teaching and are experienced Sports/Remedial Massage Therapists, which means that they have an exceptional knowledge of the musculoskeletal system which they bring to their teaching.

Thames Chase

We have the following Classes/Courses at Thames Chase on Tuesday mornings with Charlene.

  • 9.30am-10.25am Improver/Intermediate Pilates Class
  • 10.25am-11.20am Improver/Intermediate Pilates Class
  • 11.30am-12.25pm Post Natal Beginner Pilates Course (See separate entry below for further info)

Post Natal Pilates

This 6 week course has a maximum of 10 participants and focuses on re-building strength from within, starting with the pelvic floor.  The abdominal muscles of each participant will be checked for diastasis (separation of the rectus abdominis muscle occurring in pregnancy) and exercises will be taught to each individual accordingly, to try to improve or rectify this where necessary.  Advice will also be given on how to take care of your backs whilst looking after baby. Babies (below crawling age) are welcome, as are ‘on demand’ breastfeeders … so this will be a fun, relaxed and very noisy course! At the end of this course you will be offered a FREE session in the Post Natal weekly Improver class.
